Key Events in Ukraine
- President Poroshenko dismissed 86 judges for violation of oath, including 83 judges from the occupied Crimea and three judges for travesty of justice in cases against Maidan activists.
- Repeat elections in Kryvyi Rih will be held on March 27, 2016. Those involved in the falsification of the elections, which resulted in Vilkul declared the city Mayor, have not been brought to justice.
- The Constitutional Court started considering in an emergency mode the constitutionality of the constitutional amendments related to justice reform proposed by President Poroshenko and agreed with the Parliament, in written form without oral arguments.

Ukraine at War
- During mine removal, two Ukrainian soldiers were wounded in a tripwire explosion near Horlivka, one of them died. Militants fired at the positions of the Ukrainian army along the entire front line. The most tense situation was in Maryinka, neat Donetsk airport and near Horlivka.
- Chairman of the Donetsk Regional Military-Civilian Administration Zhebrivskyi said that in the event of the further militants’ attacks, Ukraine may close Zaitseve and Maryinka checkpoints, but so far this is not necessary.
- DPR authorities started persecuring ocal civil civic activists are not involved in the fighting. A well known religious schola, and a volunteer of a charitable organization have been detained.
- Council of Europe Representatives visited Crimea occupied by Russia to check the situation with human rights violations, including the persecution of the Crimean Tatars.
Ukraine and the World
- Turkey stated that a Russian military aircraft again violated its airspace. Russian ambassador was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry for explanations. President Erdogan said that he wanted to meet with Russian President Putin to resolve the conflict. NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg urged Russia to take all necessary measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, and to respect NATO airspace.
The Trends
- US Ambassador Pyatt believes creating a "Ministry of Truth" and a "troll factory" in response to Russia's information aggression to be a big mistake of the Ukrainian authorities. He proposed instead to focus on the reforms and the fight against corruption to build a successful Ukrainian state.
- According to the analysis by expert Bohdanova published by VoxUkraine, import substitution is not an optimal strategy for Ukraine, because it would not allow to fully replace imported goods and services, while consumer prices are bound to grow.
- According to experts, amendments to the law on higher education adopted by the Parliament and allowing admission to universities not through external evaluation, but through entrance exams create conditions for higher education institutions administration to take bribes for admission. Besides, the system of "social benefit" holders violates the principle of equality, and often prevents gifted children from entering universitiesl. In Western countries, the state covers education costs of socially vulnerable categories of the population, while there are unified rules of admission to universities.
