Key Events in Ukraine

  • The Central Election Commission started publishing election results. Vote counting in some constituencies have not finished yet, territorial commissions send many protocols for clarification.
  • Petro Poroshenko Bloc proposed to hold elections in Mariupol within three weeks, but the proposal was supported at the parliamentary coalition meeting. The Committee of Voters of Ukraine calls to postpone the election in Mariupol and Krasnoarmiysk to the following year, as their obstruction has not only technical reasons. Holding the elections on November 15 could result in repeated numerous violations and obstruction.
  • A delegation of American businessmen headed by Secretary of Commerce Pritzker paid a visit to Ukraine. Secretary met President Poroshenko and Prime Minister Yatsenyuk. She stressed that Ukraine would receive another $1 billion in loan guarantees if it  complies with the IMF requirements and carries out anti-corruption reform. The parties planned a series of investment conferences, the next of which will take place in France.
  • Interior Ministry opened a criminal investigation into the obstruction of elections in Mariupol and Krasnoarmiysk. Besides the heads of the territorial commissions, the investigation also examines the violations of the CEC head Okhendovsky. According to him, the elections were obstructed because territorial commission members refused to transfer bulletins to voting stations.
  • The court extended the house arrest of Svoboda party member Leonov. Former MP Syrotyuk remains in custody, even thought 31 MPs agreed to bail him out.
  • EU Court lifted sanctions, including seizure of property, against the former First Deputy Head of Yanukovych’s Presidential Administration Portnov. The court ruled that imposing sanctions only on the basis of collaboration with the former regime was unacceptable.
  • National Bank continues to lower the official hryvnia rate: 22.90 ₴/$ (+0.33 UAH), 25.22 ₴/€ (+0.20 UAH), 3.66 ₴/10 ₽ (+0.02 UAH).

Ukraine at War

  • Militants once again violated the ceasefire on Monday night. One Ukrainian soldier was killed during the shelling of Opytne and Avdiyivka. Two soldiers were injured during the previous day, according to the Antiterrorist Operation Headquarters.

  • Documents on over 300 war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the militants during the war in Donbas have been submitted to The International Criminal Court in The Hague.
  • The mission of the European Parliament, the US State Department and the OSCE said that the local elections held in Ukraine conformed to democratic standards.
  • The results of the elections to the Seim were announced in Poland. The winning opposition party Law and Justice will receive half of the votes in Parliament.
