- President Poroshenko announced that the truce deal reached in Minsk by the Coordination Group has been observed. Nevertheless, the militants continued firing at the Ukrainian army positions and the settlements near Donetsk: Maryinka, Pisky, and Avdiyivka, as well as Artemovsk neighborhood. In the previous day, according to the official figures, two soldiers were injured.
- Russia will not give up sending "humanitarian convoys" to the Donbas "republics" without Ukrainian customs clearance. Three such convoys are scheduled for September.

- On September 5–6 in Luxembourg, an informal meeting of the representatives of the Foreign Ministries and Interior Ministries of the EU member states and candidate countries will he held to discuss the problem of migrants from the Middle East, mechanisms of their resettlement, and admission quotas. EU Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Federica Mogherini said that migration crisis would continue for a long time.
- Former Prime Minister Azarov said that the former MP Markov was released from prison in Italy on travel restrictions pending the judgment on extradition to Ukraine.
- US Secretary of State Kerry warned Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov about Russia's attempts to strengthen its military presence in Syria, which would lead to conflict escalation. Media reported that a Russian expeditionary force landed in Latakia, where a Russian naval base is located, and is actively involved in the fighting on the side of President Assad.
- President Poroshenko in an interview to the Voice of America said should Ukraine apply for NATO membership today, its application would be rejected as back in 2008. However, the understanding of the need to join NATO has been reached in Ukraine, and the country's Military Doctrine renounces its non-aligned status and stipulates Euro-Atlantic integration.
- According to Poroshenko, Russia should be deprived of the right of veto in the UN Security Council for refusing to establish an international tribunal to investigate the downing of the Malaysia Airlines flight MH-17.

- Leader of "DPR" militants Zakharchenko said that Ukraine has to be forced to fully comply with the Minsk agreements, as there are no reasonable alternatives to the political resolution of the conflict. LPR representative at the Minsk talks Deyneha said that the militants were ready to transfer to Ukraine the control over the border with Russia, provided that they will be allowed to form their own government and security forces and develop cross-border cooperation.
