Key events in Ukraine

  • After a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Abe President Poroshenko said that Ukraine will receive $1.5 billion loan guarantees to strengthen the financial system. Japan also confirmed a loan of 104 billion yen ($ 860 million) for the reconstruction of WWTP in Bortnychi near Kiev. Money received by Ukraine within the framework of the Kyoto Protocol will be used to equip police with one and a half thousand hybrid cars.
  • The Ministry of Defence announced the establishment of the concept for special operations forces to NATO standards.
  • Members of the public council at the National Anti-Corruption Bureau elected by online voting were announced.
  • LGBT rally named "March of Equality" took place in Kyiv. One policeman was injured in clashes with opponents of the rally.

Ukraine at War

  • Military operations  in the Donbass slightly decreased during Saturday but attacks on positions of the Ukrainian army still continue. The use of MRL systems is on the rise, Shyrokyne, surroundings of the Donetsk airport and villages along demarcation line in Telmanovo area  are still remaining hot spots. According to official report, one soldier was killed and 10 injured yesterday.
  • Residents of Maryinka refused evacuation from the combat zone. Due to this fact volunteers ask the authorities to support people living on Ukrainian territory near the front line.
  • Russia continues transfer of military equipment to the Donbass using railway. Another trainload of tanks and self-propelled artillery from Russia reached Ilovaysk and were unloaded at the station.

  • Canadian Prime Minister Harper after talks with President Poroshenko said that the Ukraine will be the central theme of the G7 summit and his country will continue to support Ukraine and is ready to introduce new sanctions against Russia.
  • OSCE Special Representative for negotiations in Minsk Tagliavini announced her resignation "due to the complexity of negotiations," but will run the next two meetings of the contact group planned earlier. The head of the OSCE, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Dacic is looking for a new candidate for this position.
  • US Secretary of Defense Ashton stated the need for new steps in connection with the conflict in Ukraine at the meeting with ambassadors and generals during the NATO drill in Germany since economic sanctions could not force Russian President Vladimir Putin to change course.
  • President Poroshenko said that Ukraine did not offer the West to place ABM systems on its territory.
  • The Turkish prosecutor's office opened a case to close the Turkish Federation of the Crimean Tatar societies, known for its pro-Russian activities and cooperation with the Crimean authorities.
  • Russian President Putin says that Ukraine is obliged to discuss the laws related to Donbass with DPR and LPR, and it is supposedly written in the Minsk Agreement.
