Key Events of Ukraine

• Ukraine modestly celebrated a Soviet Victory in the Great Patriotic War Day. Due to the efforts of the security services it was possiblle to avoid terrorist acts during the mass events. President Poroshenko awarded almost three and a half thousand soldiers with a medal "Defender of the Motherland"

Ukraine at War

• Militants of Donetsk “republic” held a military parade in Donetsk copying similar parade in Moscow. After the parade the fighting started again in Maryinka and near Donetsk airport. Minor actions with the use of heavy artillery and mortars also were recorded near the "Bahmutka" highway, Schastya, Artemivsk and Shyrokine. According to the official information, during the day 4 Ukrainian soldiers were injured.
• The OSCE recorded dozens of militants tanks in the close proximity to the fighting line in the Donbass. Mission observers still have no access to Debaltseve and Ukrainian-Russian border.
• Security Service of Ukraine together with other security agencies prevented the movement of a large convoy of 168 vehicles with a variety of goods and equipment to the territory controlled by the militants near the closed checkpoint in the Lugansk region.
• The militants freed two US citizens, members of the International Rescue Committee, whom they captured 10 days ago.

Ukraine and the World

• European Commissioner for Foreign Affairs Mogherini urged European nations to unite, as there is a threat of war on the continent again.
• Former German Chancellor Schroeder, who is holding a position in the "Nord Stream" consortium, controlled by "Gazprom", said that annexation of the Crimea was a breach of the international law, but NATO also violated it during the war in Iraq. He urged the West not to break down the dialogue with Moscow, since security in Europe can only be achieved together with Russia. In his opinion, Russia can turn away from the EU towards China and East Asia and Europe is not interested in that.
• Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Rogozin claimed that France will not be able to use Mistral class helicopter carriers, built for the Russian order, as they were designed exclusively for the Russian standards, and their aft part design belongs to Russia.

The Trends

• The public is wary of attempts to disarm the volunteers, in particular, to the forcing of the "Right Sector" out of the "Desna" training center and to the search in the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists battalion. The large amounts of the unregistered weapons could lead to the armed confrontation with the security agencies and destabilize the situation in Russia's favour. Experts consider it expedient to adopt a law on the free weapons possession and to form the defense territorial divisions on the Swiss or Israeli model.
